About
This Piece:

“Baptizin’”

Acrylic ACEO on 1/4′ Poplar Wood

Down here in the South Baptisms were, and in a lot of places, still are, carried out in nearby lakes or creeks. It’s an all day affair, full of singing and praying, hands stretched out to Jesus, and downright celebration!

I painted this ACEO (2.5″ x 3.5″) on poplar wood in the southern folk art fashion, so you’ll have no wrinkling or curling. It is sealed with a glossy varnish for protection.

The painting is signed on the front C.E. Harrison 8-08, and on the back “MamaHen” C.E. Harrison.

Mamaw’s Vase - Sold

Title: Mamaw’s Vase - SOLD

8.25″ X 12.5″
Media:
Acrylic on masonite
Date:

About
This Piece:

When the jonquils, or as some around here call them, buttercups, start blooming, you know spring has arrived! Little boys seem the first to notice, and mine always brought me in a handful (still does, sometimes), and expected me to put them in a vase right away. Keeping in tradition of my mother and grandmother, I’d grab out an old canning jar, fill it with water, and have an instant Spring center piece!

I used an old-timey Ball blue glass canning jar for the model in this picture. I found two in a flea market in Northwest Georgia a few years back, and had to have them! They are both from the early nineteen hundreds, and have glass lids with rubber seals, and a metal pull contraption.

I painted this picture on masonite that my husband, Big Daddy Rooster, was throwing away. When I saw it I yelled, “Wait! That there’s instant canvas!” When will he ever learn?

About the Artist:

I am C.E. Harrison, from Georgia. I am …an artist, wife, mother, animal lover. I live on a farm and raise chickens, turkeys and geese. I have 2 studios, one attached to my home, and one under the big shade trees, with my chickens keeping me company and offering critiques. My paintings have been collected all over the United States. While a lot of my art leans towards the Southern Folk Art Style, I never let anything rule me - in short…. I’m “complicated”.

About
This Piece:

El Blanco The D’uccle Bantam”

Acrylic on on Tile

6″ x 6″

“What Can I say about my D’uccle (dew-clay) Bantam “El Blañco Pollo” ? He’s a tiny white fireball, weighs only a pound and a half, and struts around my yard like he’s king! Hopefully the full sized roosters will stay in their coops - lol

My son took a picture of Blanco crowing, and I knew I wanted to paint him.

The painting is on a clay tile, rescued from the landfill even though it was new. It is painted in acrylic, and sealed with a glossy interior/exterior varnish for protection.

La-ti-da Recycled Sunflower

Outside on the wood wall

Gessoed

the original cymbal before cleaning

Details:
Title: La-Ti-Da Sunflower
Size:
14 “
Media:
acrylic on recycled metal
Date:
8-08
About
This Piece:

On my quest to make art out of recycled materials I painted the first in “Flowers of the Seasons” - this sunflower on a 14 inch drum cymbal rescued from the landfill. I used some texture paint in the center for the sunflower “seeds”

While my music taste tends to swing to country, my favorite song is “La-Ti-Da” by the Icicles, definitely not country! I found myself listening to it a lot while painting this happy piece, and decided to name it “La-Ti-Da”
