Baby Chicks have been selling from the home place like crazy for the last 2 months, so with all incubators filled,  and all broody hens setting, it is time to get back to selling hatching eggs online.  I actually enjoy mailing the eggs out.  It is so neat to know I have chickens in California, Vermont, Orlando….even Hawaii(OK - shipping from GA to Hawaii was a little nerve wracking…. I don’t want to risk shipping that far again!).  It is a little sad, though, to know my chickens are going where I may get to go, though!

There is some risk in mailing, but overall I’ve had a lot of successful shipments.  The hatch rates with shipped eggs are said to be lower, of course, and I’ve read where 60% is good, but I’ve had many people write back with 85-95%.  I just like everybody who buys from me to know it’s a risk, to have an incubator ready, to know how to operate their incubator, and then to hope for the best and have fun!

I’ve even bought eggs online.  This last spring I bought some Cream Brabanters.  Out of 9 eggs I now have 3 brabanters, not so bad when I had a thermostat go out in my ‘bator!

This year on my website www.mamahenfolkart.com I have French Black Copper Maran Eggs, White Crested Black Polish, Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorp.
